Groundwork Richmond
On January 14th, The City of Richmond commemorated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting their 11th Annual MLK Jr. National Day of Service and the Grand Opening of Unity Park, a local community-designed park. Richmond’s annual MLK Day of Service represents the single largest community volunteer effort in West Contra Costa County. Hundreds of local residents joined thousands of Americans across the country in making the holiday a day on – rather than a day off.
This year, the event took place at Unity Park, which was designed by residents and various local community organizations. One organization, Groundwork Richmond, led community volunteers in planting trees at Unity Park to increase green spaces and improve the health of the community.
Groundwork Richmond is an environmental organization that is Changing Places & Changing Lives by restoring the environment with the next generation of environmental stewards. They work with area youth to help them develop their leadership potential and provide service learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math (STEAM). They work with local partners to provide community-based learning and academic support opportunities, as well as awareness around environmental & community-based career tracks.
que Bottle was proud to partner with Groundwork Richmond for the event, donating 75 que Bottles to their “Green Team” of youth volunteers! We thank them and everybody else who gave back to their communities on Monday, as well as the environment!
